The visit, sponsored by the city of Duque de Caxias, will surely be remembered by the children for a long time.
The morning of the 17th of May started in a peculiar way: when the educator called the children to wake up, all of them did so exceptionally fast, made their beds, cleaned up the room and were ready for the breakfast before the bell was rung even for the first time. It was the day of visit in the zoo of Rio de Janeiro.
At nine o’clock a bus provided by the city of Duque de Caxias came to pick up the children. There was a lot of excitement in the air during the journey since all the kids were eager to see all the exotic animals living in the zoo.
Every child had his or her favorite animal. The boys ran with enthusiasm into the snake house and many of the girls liked especially the monkeys and the parrots. The giraffes brought out lots of joy; the kids spotted amongst them the cousin of a Canadian volunteer Neil, who is called "giraffe" by the kids. After the entertaining and informative visit there was still time to enjoy the playground of the zoo. On the way back everybody was so tired that one could only hear a symphony of satisfied muttering and snoring in the bus.
The next day the kids wrote in the school reinforcement class a short essay on their experience. Jesica 9 years: Yesterday I went to zoo and saw goats, monkeys, lion, lioness, bear, giraffe, elephant, zebra, hippo, buzzard, toad, coati, kangaroo, snow leopard, duck, camel, alligator, iguana, toucan, mandrill, sacred baboon, long-tailed monkeys, and ostrich. The animals that I liked most were long-tailed monkeys, lioness and snow leopard. The animals that I didn’t like to see were: mandrill and camel. The trip was great because I had never seen so many kinds of animals before.
