| An initiative to create more widespread and ongoing support for Casa do Caminho and volunteers has commenced in the UK. |
Project Name: Casa Do Caminho UK Introduction This newsletter is the first in a number of updates which will hopefully outline developing ideas and events in the life of the initiative. Background Many new volunteers from the UK have a similar story once they arrive at Casa, in that they would like to have carried out some sort of fundraising before they reach Brazil, and indeed that they’d like to carry on being able to support Casa more easily once they return home. Also, it can be quite daunting leaving home to volunteer somewhere without meeting and getting advice from ex-volunteers to help their confidence. This problem isn’t limited to Casa. Having discussed this with other trusts and NGOs, there is a consensus that the true value of volunteers is generally not realised or properly taken advantage of by not maintaining the network of volunteers that have been active in helping their chosen institutions abroad. Resolving these issues forms the basis of this initiative we are starting in the UK.
Casa do Caminho UK We aim to create a supporting group in the UK for Casa do Caminho and its UK-based volunteers. The process will start with creating an entity called Casa do Caminho UK (CCUK) initially comprising of a network of volunteers with the interests of Casa do Caminho in mind. It is intended that they will carry out fundraising and awareness activities, and provide advice for prospective volunteers. Also, a ‘Community’ bank account (the term often used for a charity account) will be set up to act as a UK based account to route money through to Casa do Caminho in Brazil. All accounts for Casa do Caminho UK will be published on the Casa internet site. With the existence of an official entity in the UK, fundraising/awareness events and activities can be more easily facilitated, a network of supporters can be built, and the credibility of Casa do Caminho as an international organisation can be enhanced. The Future of Casa do Caminho UK The end-state of Casa do Caminho UK has not been defined and will be a constantly developing initiative. The following provides some idea as to what the short, medium and long term objectives should have in store.
