Adopt a child at Casa Do Caminho

Proceedings for Adoption within Brazil

The applicants should appear before the Judge of childhood and adolescence with the appropriate documentation, which will be sent to the technical center for a social and psychological evaluation.

The decision is made by the Public Ministry and the Judge of childhood and adolescence of our town Duque de Caxias; In case the adoption is accepted a certificate of adoption will be made. The details of the candidate parents will than be registered and will wait for the actual Green light for adoption.

Observation: The denial of the adoption will not limit the candidate parents to re-apply after a period of 1 year from the date of the first psychological and social evaluation.

 

Necessary Documents (all in Portuguese):

  • Authentic copies of the birth certificate or marriage license, and an identification card

  • Proof of moral competency provided by two references, signed, with recent addresses and a photocopy of the references must be provided.

  • A criminal record provided by criminal and civil authorities

  • Proof of physical and mental competency

  • A copy of your identity card and proof of residence of the witnesses

  • One 3x4 photo

Proceedings for Intercountry Adoption

The applicants should first apply for an intercountry adoption with the Central Authority within their State.

If the Central Authority of the receiving State is satisfied that the applicants are eligible and suited to adopt, it shall prepare a report including information about their identity, eligibility and suitability to adopt, background, family and medical history, social environment, reasons for adoption, ability to undertake an intercountry adoption, as well as the characteristics of the children for whom they would be qualified to care.

Other Necessary Documents (in portuguese)

  • Documentation provided by a competent authority proving the applicant is capable of adoption according to the laws of the receiving country, and in this case, the adoption of a Brazilian child.

  • Documentation of an elaborate psychological examination of the applicants.

  • Copies of the applicants’ passports.

  • Appropriate text of the Legislation of intercountry adoption of the receiving country.

  • Proof of the above mentioned Legislation.

  • Signed declaration that the applicant is aware that adoption in Brazil is free and irrevocable.

  • Official declaration that there will be no contact made with the family or guardians of the prospective child or adolescent until the official decision has been sent by the CEJA in Rio de Janeiro.

The psychosocial study, referenced in letter ‘b’, should contain proof of physical and mental sanity, criminal record, proof of stable residence, proof of sufficient income, and certainty around the civil state of the applicants.

All documents in a foreign language should arrive properly authenticated by the consular authority, having observed the treaties and international conventions around intercountry adoption, and should be accompanied by official translations provided by a certified legal translator.

Addressing requests from residents of the United States, all documentation should be submitted to the Department of Immigration. The Department of Immigration can grant permission for adoption, in conjunction with the Child Citizenship Act of 2000.

Including photos is recommended.
