Who are we? Casa do Caminho is situated in the middle of a rainforest, outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The orphanage aims to take children away from aggression, drugs & criminality in Rio and surrounding suburbs. It provides these children with shelter, nutrition, education and a lot of freedom to play. Your help is needed because international volunteers bring new knowledge and enthusiasm to Casa do Caminho from which the children and staff can learn from! Who are we looking for?

What are the general requirements? What do we offer? The volunteer program at Casa do Caminho is completely free. Volunteers receive an airport pick-up, accommodation, food, training, portuguese classes and access to “capoeira” classes. Volunteering at Casa do Caminho is a unique cultural experience – you will get to know the brazilian culture, have the freedom to set up your own projects and the children will make you feel at home from the very first second!

Psychologists Positions open starting: Now What are we looking for?
We are looking for volunteers with a degree or experience in psychology to work with our children. As a psychologist at Casa do Caminho you will have the following key responsibilities Evaluate and improve the existing education system Give advise and training to the educators Work closely with the children and teenagers to help them to cope with their past and to improve their social behavior

IT experts Positions available starting: April 2010 What are we looking for?
We are looking for volunteers with a degree or experience in IT to work on our Information and Communication project. As an IT expert at Casa do Caminho you will have the following key responsibilities Maintain the IT infrastructure of three different houses (orphanage and teenager houses) Extent and improve the existing IT project Develop new ideas to optimize the means of communication of Casa do Caminho, i.e. set up a Voice over IP project

Sports Teacher/ Manager Positions available starting: June 2010 In November 2008 our new sports & community centre should be ready. We need volunteers that can organize sport, cultural and social events for our children and the local community. The centre also needs to be managed. Our aim is to let the community manage their centre. People need to be trained and orientated how to manage the centre.

Carpenter Positions available starting: March 2010 What are we looking for? Casa do Caminho is looking for a carpenter who can work on our three houses. We need repair for our roofs, windows, doors, beds and tables. We need a person who is flexible and able to work with a limited set of tools and materials. We have a large scrap yard of wood that you might be able to recycle, and some funds available to buy new material. What are the requirements? Cook Positions available starting: June 2010 What are we looking for? We are looking for volunteers with a degree or experience in cooking. We need someone to help with the weekend shifts and occasional shifts during the week if the Brazilian cook is not available. Four meals a day are served for children, staff, and volunteers in the main kitchen Cooking is done predominantly on a wood stove. What are the requirements? You will be based at our Language School in Ipanema where you will have full access to the internet and amenities there. You will work closely with our Director to help raise funds for our organisation. As a Marketing and fundraiser you will have the following key responsibilities: - Promote Language School online
- Promote sales of our organic farming products
- Update current volunteer placements on various websites
- Source new (free) websites to advertise volunteer placements
- Grant writing – including sourcing new companies
- Organising fundraising events

What are we looking for?
We are looking for volunteers with a degree or experience in running an office. You will be based at our Language School in Ipanema where you will have full access to the internet and amenities there. It is a very hands on position that requires you to be very organized and a good communicator. As an Office Manager you will have the following key responsibilities:
- Holding regular staff meetings with volunteers/teachers
- Monthly staff evaluation
- Organising the weekly staff & class schedule
- Cashflow management
